Japanese guitars are popular among players thanks to great quality and attention to detail. This Takamine is a cool way to get the look of a 000-18 at a bargain price. It really looks like a Martin. Pretty cool for the cash. The top is spruce, maybe solid but I'm not sure. The back and sides are mahogany. The mahogany neck features a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. A rosewood bridge keeps it rock solid. The finish is natural and is set off by a black pickguard. Comfortable OOO body size. A cool guitar that will fool the folks in the back row into thinking your guitar was made in Nazareth, PA not Tokyo, Japan!

This flat top sounds and plays well for the bucks. It won't make you burn your pre war 000-18 for firewood this winter but it will stand up to and exceed the performance of most contemporary low end flat tops. Decent action and nice feel. Condition wise, it shows the wear you would expect of a 30+ year old instrument. Moderate pick and clearcoat scratches, a few indents and dings.. No cracks or structural issues. Comes in a chipboard case.

This is a cool guitar for the bucks that's as nice or nicer than many new budget guitars. It definitely has a hip vibe and really looks vintage. plus, it's had the benefit of several years of aging. Why buy a new Chinese guitar when you can get an older instrument with so much more vibe?
