Let’s hop on the time machine and head back to the 80’s! Lots of manufacturers were making some great shredders in Japan at this time. Charvel, Ibanez, Jackson, and Kramer were flooding the market with top quality Super Strats. This Charvel Model 4 is a great example of a Japanese Super Strat. Many would consider it one of the best of the era. The body is probably basswood which means good weight and punchy tone. The maple neck features a 22 fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. The pickups have been upgraded to a set of EMG active pickups. I don't know what models but they are powerful but very versatile. AN original Kahler trem keeps it rock solid but the arm is MIA. The color is a classy root beer metallic. Very cool finish! A great quality guitar that will be an excellent choice for many players!

Like most shredders of this era, this Charvel has a slim neck with a flat fingerboard and big frets. Good overall feel. The active pickups deliver good tone and los of versatility. Condition wise, this one is solid for its age and shows some normal wear. Light to moderate pick and clearcoat scratches and a chip on the headstock are about it on this one. Comes in original chainsaw style hardshell case.

I remember when these guitars were all the rage and also remember when they fell out of favor. Many players are rediscovering this era thanks to the great playability and tone of these guitars. Japanese quality is well known these days and many players would prefer an 80s Japanese built Charvel to a USA Fender or Gibson. There’s not much else you can buy new at this price quite like this.
